Who are the Sparrows Core Shims for?

The Sparrows Core Shims are designed for lockpickers who also want to learn bypass techniques. They work on cylinder locks that do not have a protective collar between the core and the lock housing, something you surprisingly often encounter with low and sometimes medium security. Suitable for beginners who want to see quick results and for locksmiths looking for a fast opening.

What’s in the package?

You will receive a set of thin, spring steel shims that you can use right away:

• 30 loose core shims per package
• Thin spring steel that fits between the core and the lock housing
• To be used without a handle, working by hand is more comfortable in practice

The technique is simple. You slide a shim over the core backward until it blocks on the top pin of the first pin stack. Gently lift that pin with your pick until the shim slides through the opening between the top and bottom pin and continue to the next pin stack. Repeat this until the entire separation line is covered. Only then do you take your tension wrench and turn the lock open. If you can hit the first pin with a straight shim, there is a good chance this bypass will work.
