As a beginner, you want a set that offers enough variety to learn different techniques without feeling overwhelmed. The SouthOrd PXS-14 is a good example of this. Wide enough to grow with you, affordable enough to start with. The Sparrows Tuxedo and Multipick Elite 9 are just as suitable if you’re looking for something more compact or European-focused.

What should you pay attention to?

A good set at least contains a few hook picks, a rake, and at least two tension wrenches. Material matters. Stainless steel from brands like Sparrows, SouthOrd, or Multipick lasts for years and doesn’t bend easily. Sets with plastic handles or too thin picks from the budget range can frustrate you more than help you.
