This heat shrink tubing is slightly different from the heat shrink tubing you’ll find elsewhere. This heat shrink tubing actually contains a thin layer of glue on the inside that liquefies, when it gets hot. This layer of glue makes the shrink tube just a little thicker, making your handle even thicker.

Shrink tubing is a thin tube of soft plastic that shrinks when heated with extreme heat from a lighter or gas burner. Shrinkers have been used for years by lockpickers as handles for lock picks.

Many experienced lockpickers like to make a lockpick exactly to their own preference. They then use a shrink tube as a handle in most cases. If you are lockpicking for a while with a lockpick without a handle, at some point it can start to “cut” into your fingers. The heat shrink tubing provides a soft, but thin, coating for the metal to prevent this from happening.

A counter argument to using handles on your lock picks is that it can affect feedback. If your lockpick is made entirely of metal, it naturally guides the tiny movements in the lock the best. Still, many lockpickers use a shrink sleeve as a handle because comfort is preferred over better feedback. In contrast, heat shrink tubing is very thin and contains no voids, so the pick will remain very sensitive.

You will receive two pieces, each 15 cm in length (totaling 30 cm), which is enough to create handles for 4 to 15 lockpicks.

The lockpick in the picture is purely for demonstration, so it is not included.

Tip: Cover the handle with a thin layer of cling film first, if you ever want to remove the shrink tube or neatly finish the melted glue.
