This is a set of 3 magnetic handles that you attach to Multipick Elite lock picks. The system uses magnets instead of screws or clamps. You click two plastic halves around the pick and the magnets hold everything in place.
HILO stands for High Sensitivity Low Interference. The handle is made by the German brand Multipick and works with all thickness variants of their Elite picks: 0.4 mm, 0.5 mm and 0.6 mm.
Each handle consists of two black plastic halves with a textured surface. On the inside are 6 flat square magnets that hold the two halves together. There are also small pins and holes for extra stability.
You open the handle by pulling the two halves apart. Then place the lock pick between them and press the halves together again. The magnets click together and hold the pick securely. The entire process takes a few seconds.
The magnets always make good contact with the metal of the pick. This keeps the two halves firmly pressed together during picking. With extreme bending, minimal separation may occur at the tip, but the halves close easily again.
The handles are 89 mm long, 11 mm wide and 6.8 mm high. With a pick inserted, the height becomes 7 mm. They are made from durable black plastic with raised dots for grip.
The handle adds approximately 1 centimeter of length to your pick. This can be useful if you prefer longer lock pick handles when working.
The handles are specifically designed for Multipick Elite picks. They may not fit other brands or models. You can use them with all three thicknesses of the Elite series.
Lock Noob notes that picks with these handles don’t fit in all compartments of pre-formed Multipick cases. The handles make the picks slightly thicker. For storage, it’s better to use a case with larger compartments or loose storage space.
A possible effect with prolonged use is that the metal pick handles may become slightly magnetic from exposure to the magnets. Whether this actually happens and whether it affects use is unclear.
The handles feel comfortable and offer good grip. The textured surface prevents your hand from slipping, even when your hands get warm.
The extra thickness and length can reduce fatigue during prolonged picking. This is comparable to the effect of shrink tubing or other handle modifications, but without permanently attaching anything to the pick.
The advantage of this system is that you can quickly swap handles between different picks. If a pick breaks, you can place the handle on a new pick.
Note: the picks themselves are not included. You need Multipick Elite lock picks to use these handles.
