Tension wheel – Tension wrench

This tension wheel is a unique tool for lockpickers that can be used as a tension wrench and it can be very convenient. If it is not used properly, then it can be very frustrating.

To use the tension wheel effectively, the lock must be mounted or placed in a vise.

The tension wheel has four points on either side of the center line to measure the tension.
Light tension – enormously low tension – Start by applying tension with a distance of half the first point. Now apply the raking technique to the lock. Then release the tension and listen carefully to see if any pins snap back to the rest position. If no pins recoil, then you can increase the voltage by half a part. As soon as you hear the pins recoil, then your voltage is right.
Then place the same tension on the lock and begin lockpicking.

It also helps in learning lockpicking. Checking the correct tension can be very tricky when explained to a lockpick student. With this marked tension wheel, you can see how much tension needs to be applied. This allows you to recommend a certain zone of tension.
This makes the learning process much easier.
