Did you know that TOOOL (The Open Organisation Of Lockpickers) originated in the Netherlands? This organization, founded in 2001, now has a global influence, including an active community in America. A thriving group is Seattle Locksport, where lockpicking enthusiasts meet twice a month to practice their skills.
Lockpicking: A Social and Educational Activity
Every two weeks, TOOOL organizes a meeting for locksport enthusiasts in Europe to come together. These meetings take place in Amsterdam and Eindhoven, alternating every week. So if you’re interested, you can attend a TOOOL meeting every week.
During meetings, it’s about more than just opening locks. It’s a social and educational activity where people from different backgrounds meet, from tech experts to nurses. Opening a lock is seen as a challenging puzzle, where the key is literally missing.
The Ethical Code of Locksport
Lockpicking as a hobby has two important rules:
- Only practice on locks for which you have permission.
- Only use locks that are not in use.
This ethical code prevents misuse and strengthens the positive reputation of locksport. At TOOOL Europe, participants combine the social aspect with technical challenges, such as learning new techniques and improving speed in opening locks.
Do you want to become a member of TOOOL but are a bit hesitant? Then create a free account on Discord (social media platform) and voluntarily join the group. The members would love to hear who you are and welcome anyone with good intentions regarding locks!
TOOOL Europe and the Global Locksport Community
The success of TOOOL, both in Europe and internationally, shows how a shared passion can connect people. For lockpicking enthusiasts in Europe, TOOOL remains a source of inspiration and often camaraderie. It demonstrates how a hobby can grow into a global community with respect for ethics and safety, as described above.
